Improv (aka Improvisational Theatre) at Liminal Space Arts:
Don't let the theatre bit distract you. Whilst actors find improv especially useful for their craft, probably the vast majority of people who learn improv are non-actors. Essentially, improv is not knowing what we are going to say until we say it. Thus we are all improvising, to varying degrees, in our interactions with others in life. In improv classes we seek to increase the quality of those interactions by learning to better recognise and build upon our own skills of connection. Improv is not about being clever or funny and there is no right or wrong. Improv is just about being you, being real and letting that shine!
Learning to enrich our ability to connect with others is awesome in itself. However, what is equally wonderful is the way in which we learn. At Liminal Space Arts we learn through playing, laughing, making new friends, being part of a community, and through exploring and challenging ourselves.
What we learn in improv is immediately usable in our personal and professional lives. We find our intuition and awareness of people grows, we find that we are more able to be fully in the moment, we find our creativity being freed and we find ourselves stronger in the face of challenges.
